Zella Johnson - Artist In Nature
Although possessing diversified artistic skills and experience garnered over time, I have been best known for my surprisingly unique, wholly botanical sculptures.
I have been able to bring my lifelong passions for art and gardening together to reflect my great love of faeries, myth, and magic. The resulting creations bring to life magical creatures that embody and preserve the essence of the materials they are constructed from. Fairies, dragons and wood spirits among others, are resurrected from the preserved flora and fauna of the garden, forest, field and sea.
All of these organic sculptures are completely 3 dimensional and made almost entirely of natural materials. These dried and preserved components are sourced from cultivated gardens and the wild places in nature that I frequent. Living on Vancouver Island affords me a wealth of inspiration and sculptural components from diverse ecosystems, each of these presenting new colours and creative possibilities with every season!
My ever enduring love of plants, colour and magic is apparent in all of my art work, creating themes and pieces that honour nature and remind us that 'magic happens' .
